    LECTURER IN CLASSICAL AND QUR’ANIC ARABIC

    The Department of Middle East Studies at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor invites applications for a full-time (100%) lecturer position in Classical and Qur’anic Language beginning August 29, 2022. This is a benefits-eligible position. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching one section each of first and second year classical and Qur’anic Arabic.

    This Lecturer appointment includes an offer of a temporary appointment lasting one month, beginning August 1, 2022. The intent of this temporary position will be to modify existing Classical and Qur'anic Arabic curriculum to more closely fit the needs of a primarily non-secular, public University learning environment. To be considered, applicants must be available starting August 1, 2022 to complete this work, which will be compensated at the same rate as the Lecturer I position beginning August 29, 2022 (subject to the LEO-UM Collective Bargaining Agreement).

    Applicants should have Superior level proficiency in Qur’anic and Classical Arabic and English. Language of instruction will be English. Experience with teaching Arabic at the post-secondary level is required. Applicants must have a demonstrated understanding of and ability to use a proficiency-based, communicative methodology in language instruction. Minimum of a Master’s degree in foreign language teaching or equivalent field required.

    Union Affiliation
    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
